WHAT IS CHILD DEDICATION?
Child Dedications are a time for parents to commit themselves to raising their child God’s way. It’s a powerful time for parents to embrace the responsibility they’ve been given by God and to catch a vision of the impact they can make in their child’s life. Click below to start a Bible plan that teaches the importance of raising your family God's way!
Families with children up to age 12 are welcome to participate in the dedication. If you would like to sign-up for our next Child Dedications on MAY 13th, please complete the form below.
Q: WHAT IS CHILD DEDICATION ALL ABOUT?
A: Child dedications are an occasion for parents to embrace the responsibility they’ve been given by God and to publicly commit to raising their child to become followers of Christ. They are a joint expression of a parent’s desire to raise Godly children and our commitment as a church to empower parents in that calling.
Q: WHY DO WE DEDICATE CHILDREN?
A: The biblical basis for dedicating a child is found in 1 Samuel 1:27-28, where a woman named Hannah prayed year after year for God to give her a child. He answered her prayers and when she gave birth to a son, she prayed these words: “I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” We follow Hannah’s example through Child Dedications.
Q: IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR CHILDREN WHO CAN BE DEDICATED?
A: We invite all families with children ages 0-12 who have not been dedicated to participate. Child dedications are scheduled periodically throughout the year at each Journey Church campus. If you would like more information about our next child dedication, please complete and detach the form below.
Q: WHAT ABOUT INFANT BAPTISM?
A: The New Testament shows no example of baptism when the person did not request it. All instances of baptism followed an individual’s decision to trust Jesus alone for their salvation (Acts 2:41; 8:12; 10:47-48). Because of this, we wait until the child is old enough to believe and understand the true meaning of their salvation before we baptize them.
Q: ARE THERE QUALIFICATIONS?
A: In order to dedicate your child here at Journey you need to be actively serving on a serve team for at least three months prior to dedications. We believe that the purpose of dedications is for you - the parent - to recognize that in order to raise your kids to follow Jesus, you first need to be the example. Jesus has called us to serve and we want to pass that value to our kids!
Additionally, we believe kids thrive best in a family that adheres to Biblical guidelines. In order to dedicate your children your family structure must reflect the type of relationships the Bible outlines for us.
